In a fast-developing business environment, efficient communication matters more than ever — and with large offline meetings difficult to hold, China Minsheng Bank Kunming Branch needed a better way to coordinate with the heads of its banking outlets. The branch decided to build a new video conference room.

The Challenge
The room is roughly 60 square meters and had received little acoustic treatment, so the system needed careful control of gain balance. To keep feedback out of the room, the contractor chose column loudspeakers — moderate in sensitivity but with enough output level for the space. On the pickup side, the microphones had to combine long-distance pickup sensitivity with resistance to howling in a reverberant room. That demands very precise directivity: accurate on-axis speech reproduction together with off-axis high-frequency roll-off, both done well. After comparing options and running on-site listening tests, the client selected the Relacart CS-302 wired professional conference discussion system host and CS-501 conference units.

The Solution
The room called for ten speaking seats: one chairman unit and nine delegate units. If every seat unit picked up sound at once, gain control would be very hard to manage. The CS-302 conference host offers multiple conference modes and a limit on the number of active speakers, which effectively improves pickup quality in the room.
For remote video conferencing, the CS-302 host can control up to four cameras over the RS-232 or RS-422 serial protocols, connect to a telephone coupler for remote telephone conferences, and provides a Dante protocol interface. Whether paired with a traditional MCU or used directly with web conferencing software, the system extends flexibly to fit the scenario.

Installation & Acceptance
“The Relacart hand-in-hand conference systems we installed in the past were wired with nine-core cable — laborious to run, and the connectors were bulky and not very elegant. This time the CS-501 units connect over network cable, which is really convenient. Commissioning was easy as well: simple installation and setup and the system was ready to use. Later upgrades can also go through the Dante protocol to integrate a digital audio system, leaving the client plenty of room to expand.” — the installing contractor.

The sound field feels excellent and the sound is clear, and the remote meeting tests went ideally — none of the usual problems like latency or voice echo. The microphones look clean and elegant too; the small square-tube design is refined and distinct from other conference microphones. Speech pickup is clear and full-bodied, and the sensitivity is excellent — our executives no longer have to lean into the microphone to be heard. Very convenient!”
